Ruth Nicol’s popular solo exhibition ends Sunday 8 March. The final days of the exhibition have been timed to coincide with St Andrews’ international poetry festival, StAnza. In keeping with one of this year’s StAnza themes, Coast Lines, the exhibition features coastlines and villages in this corner of Scotland by one of Europe’s most renowned landscape artists.
Within her coastline scenes Ruth Nicol captures the contrast between the built environment, drawn with precision, with large areas of land, sea and sky painted in a free, expressive style. Her paintings and sketches are full of energy. Visitors have appreciated her outstanding skill in colour blending and composition – it all adds up to a far cry from the usual depictions of the East Neuk of Fife. Not to be missed. One of the finest events celebrating Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters.
