‘The path leading up and around the Crags is known as ‘The Radical Road’ and in the late 18th century, contemporary with Robert Burns, the reformer Thomas Muir and his ‘Friends of the People’ group – radicals influenced by Thomas Paine’s The Rights of Man – that was their secret meeting-place.
