Charcoal on paper
‘Angel Hill’ in Lochalsh in the Western Highlands of Scotland is situated very near to the artist’s studio. As well as inspiring some of Sarah Longley’s most highly regarded work to date, the landscape also inspires her father’s poetry. Michael Longley’s eleventh collection, ‘Angel Hill’ was published by Cape Poetry in 2017 and is dedicated to the artist.
Someone must be looking after the headstones.
It might be you with your easel and brushes
And your big sheets and charcoal for drawing
Snowdrop cumulus and lichen lettering.
