School Wynd, Elie features the seaside village seen from a characteristically Ruth Nicol perspective, from the centre of a road, reflecting how we very often experience our surroundings today. In this piece the road leads towards the sea.
As its name suggests, School Wynd was the location of the village school. Prior to education becoming the responsibility of the Parish, individual teachers would run classes from their front rooms in houses throughout the village. (Elie & Earlsferry History Society)
